In 1900 a group of Houston citizens formed an art society in 1924 they put this ideal to work in the first building of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The museum is home to the works of many famed artists including Degas and Cezanne. Over 2 million people visit the 300,000 square foot facility each year. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is the largest art museum in the Southwest with over 50,000 pieces of art on display. The museum does not start at just being an art gallery they have a botanical garden and an art school as part of their endeavors. Also you will find that they offer special events for children as well as showing classical movies a few times a week. The museum is open every day but Monday.
