The Sam Huston University is located between Huston & Dallas in Huntsville surrounded by forests, lakes and ranch lands. The University was founded in 1879 and named after the greatest hero of Texas, General Sam Houston.
Today the University has five colleges in the campus, offering 72 undergraduate degree programs, 52 masters programs and 5 doctoral programs.
The historic Austin Hall is the oldest continuously used state-owned higher education in the west of Mississippi.
The University has a planetarium & observatory. The campus runs its own television and radio station run by students and publish their own newspaper.
Every year people come here to celebrate the General Sam Huston Folk Festival.
